Job Posting for Promotion and Communication Co-ordinatior

We are recruiting for a highly motivated and professional individual with exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to take on EVENTS & COMMUNICATIONS at the Strathcona Hotel. To succeed in this position you must have a solid combination of work experience and education within this field of work.  As an individual you are competitive, creative, always strive to be the best you can be, a team player and you possess exemplary customer service and communication skills.  In this position you will plan and execute all promotions ranging from all sporting (NHL, NFL, soccer, golf) to annual events such as Halloween, New Years Eve and Super Bowl. You will be required to come up with new events and one offs for our different venues. You will be hands on at these events so you will be required to be extremely flexible with your schedule. You will be required to work nights as well as week days and weekends.  In this position you must be able to simultaneously create, plan and execute several events and promotional activities within budget, and set time frames for various outlets. You must be very familiar using various social media outlets.  You will participate in advertising negotiations and in various community events promoting The Strathcona Hotel.


  • Extensive knowledge and use of social media’s (Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare etc)
  • Experience booking entertainment and working with promoters and talent agencies
  • Excellent communication skills (written, proof reading and speaking)
  • Fantastic customer service skills, good work ethic and a high standard of quality and professionalism
  • Proficient skills in negotiations
  • Must be extremely organized and able to multitask
  • Have exceptional attention to detail
  • Should be proficient on computers, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, etc
  • Photoshop skills or other graphic programs an asset
  • Web site experience an asset

The candidate must also be able to work under deadlines with and without supervision. This is not a nine to five job; because of the nature of the business you must be available and willing to work evenings and weekends. You should have a passion for special events. A professional demeanor and sales minded attitude is also required, as you will be building relationships with promoters, clients and colleagues.
